We're using a set of emoticons for our chat application, derived from this free set of images:

We'd like to use animated versions of these icons inside our new web-based chat app, for a added UX flair.

To begin with, we're holding a contest to modify two of the above emoticons to be animated. The winner will be offered the opportunity to convert the remaining emoticons to animated GIFs also.

We're looking for animated versions of:

* The Wink Emoticon:

* The Smile Emoticon:
https://github.com/rubenvb/oxygen-icons-svg/blob/master/icons/emotes/face-smile.svg

The format should be a 64 x 64px animated GIF, animated PNG, or animated SVG.

Important: It seems Freelancer generates JPEGs of submitted GIFs for preview purposes, so submit a link to the GIF version as a comment after uploading entries.

Further notes:
* For Animated GIFs, a transparent background is encouraged. If you need a matte colour to blend edges with, the emoticons will most often be used on a background of #edf1f2.

* A repeating animation is encouraged over single play

* There should not be a significant empty border around the smiley in the image. 1px for a matte is fine.

* Don't go overboard with the animation on the smile emoticon. Smiling then unsmiling at regular intervals is creepy. Some eye blinking would suffice, possibly subtle facial movement providing it doesn't look weird.

Are GIFs required? It would be much better to use SVGs (with animation embeded in the file)? Although a test is needed regarding file size (because at 64 pixels squared even animated GIFs won't occupy large space) SVGs would be smaller and for a biggest benefit also resolution independent.

Thanks for your submissions so far! Looking at the entries, subtlety works best - at least for the standard smile. Humans may blink intermittently while smiling, but no-one smiles and then un-smiles at regular intervals, that just looks creepy ;)
