Abraham Lincoln famously said: “Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow.” ( i think we need to include that line as the title perhaps)

I want to create a cartoon that shows that there are two approaches to impacting the way a brand or individual looks online.

The right approach is to shine light on the tree to ensure that its shadow appears distinctly and appropriately.

The wrong approach is to focus on the shadow - this would be a guy painting a shadow on the ground.

My thought was perhaps two frames - the right way and the wrong way.

The right way is the "Five Blocks approach".

This can be in color or black and white - it can be in any style you wish.
We need it to have an impact - we want people to understand how smart it is to focus on the real thing and how silly it looks to be focusing only on the shadow itself.

Thanks! we are getting there! I like both #7 and #8. Both of you, Please reverse the order so that the Right frame is on the Left. and the Left is on the right. then OUR way is on the right - so its the conclusion. Ecomoglio, I like the way you did the text. Also - Under each frame please put some text - under the Left one "The Standard Approach" and under the right one "The Five Blocks Approach".

thanks for these entries! In both cases I am missing the part where the correct waay - the left frame - there is someone shining light on the tree to show its shadow better - or otherwise attending to the item itself. Also the painter guy doesnt have to look evil - he can just be a simpleton with a simpkle misguided solution.

i was actually thinking that the shadow is faint or mis-shaped so the painter is painting the shadow they wish to see. but your interpretation could also work.

When you say painting a shadow.. do you mean painting -over- a shadow, like to make it disappear?
