Update: there has been quite some entries and many are a bit too "artsy" and "fantastical". The texts could be done quite informative and to the point. A bit finesse is good, but the info to set the scene needs to be there. The ship you are about to captain, is travelling to a set planet in a set solar system.

I will rate and comment entries so you know if you are on the right track. Thanks for all interest in the project!

This job consists of two short pieces of writing for the intro of an indiegame. If the demo of the game gets positive feedback, I might consider getting a lot more writing done for the game.

After the title screen and menu of the game when a new game is started, the player is shown two artworks, with a short text on each. I envision two or three lines of text on each. Perhaps 15-30 words pr artwork? I`m pretty flexible here, as long as I like the style of writing.

Btw: the images attached to this project is not the artworks that the text will be used for. They are not made yet. These images are for inspiration and examples of the style of the game.

The artworks and writing on them, will explain the situtation of the game for the player, and quickly get them up to speed. Two short pieces of lore, and the player is ready to start.

The game is not very hard scifi, more fun before realism, so not to dark, but not silly either..

The game is called "The Generation Ship". Generation ships are ships that can travel for thousands of years, where generations of people live and die, until they reach their destination. You as the Captain and advisors however, live trough the whole journey (forever).

Content for first artwork:

The human race is building Generation Ships, to spread humans to other solar systems.
Preserving the human race and our need for exploring, are the driving factors.
You as the captain, will lead the first of these ships to a new planet.

Content for second artwork:

Next artwork and text, explains the reason why the ship had to leave and start the journey, before the ship was completely finished. The hull of the ship is complete, but not many modules on the ship itself are fitted on departure. Perhaps a plague or other disaster is looming, and therefore fear of whole project would be ruined, if not leaving soon.

Thanks for all contributions. This gathered a lot more interest than I thought it would. I will choose a few writers to be given some more instructions, and then choose a winner from the final writings. This contest is also a possibility to get more work later, if the game gathers interest for the upcoming demo. I will in that case contact the best writers here (best = fit the game and understood the task best). Thanks again!

Also the destination is already set. They know where they are going. The Generation Ship will be travelling to a planet in another solar system. Not decided if I am to name the new planet yet or just keep it as "new planet" but that can always be changed later.

Hi folks. There has been quite some contributions already. That`s great. The style I`m looking for is a pretty direct style. Describing the scenario in about three sentences pr artwork. Not too artsy or fantastical writing, but pretty concice. You are the captain, as the player. That should be communicated in the text. The player should be talked to as the captain. This is the first time I try freelancer.com for getting help with writing, so exciting to see the outcome of this. I might find a writer that can do the whole project, if the project becomes succesfull. Time will show. Best of luck.

  Hi. I am in the beginning of this adventure and not yet sure how much writing will be needed, and how much/if I will do any writing myself. If the demo of the game seems to catch interest, I would probably go for some help in writng backstories, and lore for the universe of the game. This is kind of a test of how getting writers to contribute will work out, and maybe find the writer that can do the entire game if needed. Thanks for your interest, and I`ll be seeing you around :)
