Fix email connection issue on new server

I have recently migrated to a new server. Was able to set up some email accounts, with some help from a developer, but I can't connect a new email account. I'n not sure if this is related to SSL, or the time needed for propagation. I have the email accounts set up in Ajenti V on an Ubuntu 14.04 droplet. They work fine with the webmail service installed (Rainloop), but not on my Mac client, where I see an error that that the username/password are incorrect. It's the same username and password I am using in Rainloop though. I have tried to test the MX records using nslookup, but I get the following error message: ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached I am not sure if this issue is related to SSL or something else. The developer I was working with did add an SSL certificate and may this needs editing to add the new domains? Not sure. But I have run out of ideas, so I need some help, as soon as possible.

this seems like MX record problem, when you change the NS settings of your domain, did you also changed the MX settings to the right one?
