If you want to host either in AWS or GCP, then you don't need any kind of backup at least for the source code, it should be in Git which automatically maintains your code snapshots. The backup must only exist for the database and any user-uploaded files should go either in EFS or S3. Also, I don't see why you need Auto Scaling for development env. For failover, the app must be hosted across multiple availability zones and tied with autoscaling to start new EC2 whenever an existing fails. If you can give more specifics about your application then I can recommend the optimal architecture to go with. Cheers Jay
