Hi. Interesting project. I think a project solution could be a system consisting of a platform with a weight sensor located in front of the kibble dispenser. Once the dog stands on this platform the sensor sends a signal to a microcontroller with information on the weight of the canine. This information will be processed according to the algorithms of the microcontroller and dispensing the amount of food proportional to the weight. The dosing system could be a system similar to that used by some grain packing machines. This system uses an endless screw located in the lower part of a hopper, where each turn of this screw represents a fixed amount of weight. It is good to ask something: What happens if the dog does not eat the entire ration supplied and moves away from the doser and after a while it becomes incorporated again? For your project, I would be able to do both the C programming and the design of the whole device including the regulation of kibble flow with a motor attached to a mechanical feeder mechanism, the electronics that control the motor and the regulation of the electricity flow to the device. If you are interested, I can submit a proposal of a project idea to you at a small cost, perhaps 20 AUD. If everything is approved, i can create the whole design for 300~ AUD, and then build the design for another 300AUD (Excluding cost of parts) depending on how far you would like me to help you.
