WPF/C#/Windows hooks: Create a mouse trail

We are looking for an *experienced* developer to create a WPF C# proof of concept app that can trace the users mouse cursor, just like in this mockup screencast: [login to view URL]
So the user moves his mouse, and the pink trail follows it and fades away. If the user clicks, a red square appears at this position. The challenging part of this project is to make sure that trail is always on top, while at the same time not disturbing clicks or keyboard entry.
Of course, this project by itself is not useful. But the trace feature will be part of an existing automation app written in WPF/C#. So this is part of a a bigger project, and if successful, you can expect a continuous stream of related project work.
The project requires good knowledge of C#, WPF and Windows desktop. Knowledge of windows hooking and C++ would be good as well.
