One of the projects was about two Sudoku puzzles that had to be solved using a multifactorial evolutionary algorithm. The project required GUI programming (using Windows Forms) in C++/CLR. I initially wondered why someone would post a project like this, but as a new freelancer, I have realised that maybe the purpose of the project was to let someone start with something small and demonstrate their skills. I had a quick look at Windows 7's calculator application and saw that it is actually no ordinary calculator application. It has four different modes and also performs unit conversion. It would take some work to duplicate all of its functions. I could start with a prototype in C#/.NET (I can develop and work more quickly in C#) and then use the C# code as a framework and blueprint for converting it into a C++ application that makes calls to the Win32 API. I am anticipating one day to develop the prototype in C#/.NET and two days to convert it to C++ code and replace the .NET-specific code with Win32/GDI-specific code.

I have been developing C++ applications for many years, all more varied and complex than each other, and a simple calculator will only be a formality for me, allowing me to deliver it as quickly as possible.
