Hello I’m a Nuclear engineer with +15 years of experience in Matlab, data processing instrumentation on field and Finite elements analysis. I think I did what you are needing in your project: I had to measure position vs time Z(t) of a control Rod of a nuclear reactor during Scram event, I did it attaching a red object to the Rod and recording with a 120 frames per second camera. I wrote a code in matlab for processing the image history and calculate Z(t). I validated my code attaching also an accelerometer and calculating Z(t) by numerical integration, the results where greats. I can help you with your project.
