I have a stand-alone Visual Basic 6.0 application with an Access database on the backend collecting the user’s data. I will be switching to SQL to gain scalability. It is consisted of six modules, which lead the user through specific exercises designed to stimulate areas of the brain that are ignored by traditional methods. Here's a general overview of the modules: Opening: Provides a login screen that is based on the first name, last name, and password before moving to the Eye Movement module. Another function of the opening module is a gateway to the administration section and a place to add a new user, which could be moved to the administration section. Eye Movement: This module flashes words and phrases to the user at the chosen speed for a period of around one minute. After each activity the user log is updated. The module is strictly presentation, and no inputs are recorded from the user. Letter Flash: Two, Three, or four letters are flashed to the user in a random sequence and the user then is prompted to type the letters that were presented. The speed of the presentation picks up with each correct answer. The incorrect answers are recorded to the database, and the activity is logged. Word Flash: Identical to Letter Flash, but uses phrases and randomly selected words. Picture Flash: Identical to Letter Flash, but uses pictures. Although the application is stable and functional in its current state, I want to make this application platform independent so that my users with Apple computers as well as IBM computers can use the application. The application needs to run as a stand alone app as well as on a network. Most of the networks are Novell networks. I don't think this can be done using VB. I am looking for suggestions on how to go about this. Maybe C, C++ or PHP? Can I make the whole app an web app and just run the browser off of the harddrive for the stand-alone applications? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
