I am using ROS and Gazebo in my master thesis project. There are IR sensors and camera sensors on my robot, and I integrate Open-AI gym with ROS and Gazebo to evolve my robot with Evolutionary Algorithm. Also, I have a real robot which is called Robobo, and I use ROS to control it. I hope that these contents cover your needs.
