I don't think that the difference between our fields is not a barrier for statistical consultation because the meaning of the parameters is not important here.
The first problem I have encountered is with logistic regression. And I request your mentorship first for this analysis. Here is a brief explanation of my needs;
I have data that I want to perform logistic regression. Normally I use SPSS (so SPSS based help is better for me). There is a binary outcome, say an event happening or not happening. And there are several possible predictors; like age, the number of children, results of several other tests (these are lab tests in my speciality, all are scale, but I don't think it really matters, consider these as any scale predictors). I want to build a logistic regression model.
1. I want to build a good model and request your mentorship for this. A brief education for logistic regression. I am currently using SPSS and I need more advanced techniques, like stepwise, backward, interaction analysis. So I already know the basics of the logistic regression model
2. Since there are many possible predictors, I am not sure whether I should include all of them to the model. There are some parameters that we already know that they are very important for the outcome, like age and other proven lab tests that may affect the result. However, there are many other lab tests that I want to explore and hope to find a relationship. Should I include only the parameters that have a significant relationship with the outcome? But I have a concern that this method can miss some interactions. There is also a possible way called "purposeful selection" as mentioned in an article ([login to view URL])
3. Another problem in my data is such; age is not linearly correlated with the logit of the outcome. For example in general increasing age increases or decreases the odds of the event. However, in my data, younger ages and older ages have higher risk but middle ages have lower risks. How can I solve this issue?
