I think to make the display it is better to use clear acrylic, it is easy to made, you can machine it with router cnc machine, even if it is just simple design you can use somekind of acrylic cutter, if you use polypropilen you have to use cnc mill/router they can't cut jus using knife. Thrn you need glue it using acrylic glue, if you want get clear view on the cutter mark, you can torch it (burn it) for a while. Then you can install LED strip on its acrylic.
