Encryption of a Linux VPS (Ubuntu 18.04 and Centos 7)

Hi. Bad news... is HIGH risky try to encrypt an existent partition.. even, you need unmount it for start encrypt process so... and if your whole system is running over one only partition you need an external disk for start the process. Encrypt process normally is doing when system is being installed but not over partition containing running systems. All documentation and good reccomendations talks about encrypt only new partitions. Open to questions.

Hi there, I've been setup full disk encryption using LUKS on my own VPS at Linode and Proxmox before. The decryption process were happen during boot process after asking the passphrase. But here my concerns about encryption that you may consider before doing this. - You cant really hide the owner of hardware at hypervisor level to intercept decryption process as they can just dump the memory of running instance to find the decryption key. Mounted disk means kernel need to keep decryption keys on memory to do readwrite on the encrypted disk. I've been doing PoC to do this intercepting and I successfully find the decryption keys after scanning the whole memory dump.
