I think you did not configure it correctly. If you can locally access your proxmox server, then I think the problem is laying on the configuration side. if you’re familiar with Linux, then you can easily and quickly fix the issue. Cause it all depends on how you define your network on the proxmox server. I have so many VM servers running on my proxmox and two subnets, 1 is for management and the other one is for remote access, so I can access all my VMs wherever I am over the internet using the L2TP tunnel from my MikroTik router. If you need help, I will be glad to assist you on this and probably show you the best practices based on your need.
