We are an ESL company currently developing an iOS (iphone 5 to latest) English Learning app that we plan to release by Mid-October. Thus, we need a design that would be easy to implement.

As opposed to simply being an app for 'studying', we want this to function like a game wherein users will have to clear levels/stages before proceeding to the next one. As such, we want the design to be engaging and exciting but also 'clean' enough to cater to mature users.

The app is aimed at all English learners but is expected to have a majority of Japanese users ages 20-40 who have business-related professions/fields of study. Possible color schemes we are looking at are black and blue/white and yellow. We are also open to designers' suggestions. As for the icons, we want them to be simple but eye-catching and distinct enough to be differentiated from other similar apps (duolingo, Knowji). Our company's logo is a lighthouse and we would also appreciate it if you can incorporate that into the design somehow. For the application icon, you have the prerogative to choose the design. See pictures attached for sample icons and color schemes. As for the font, we have nothing specific picked out.

There will be no more than 14 screens for the app. The ones we want to receive proposals for are as follows:

main screen - for this screen, we want the stages and levels to be readily visible (note: in the app, levels are within stages. for example, stage one has 19 levels, stage 2 has the same number of levels and so on. all levels within stage one must be cleared before the user can proceed to stage 2). It doesn't have to be a very long list. for example, we could have only the stages displayed but once the user clicks on a certain stage, he can see what levels have been cleared and which ones are still locked. In addition, we want there to be something that indicates how much has been accomplished. Say someone has cleared half the levels in a specific stage. Maybe there can be a battery icon that is half full beside the stage number.

For the background of this screen, we are picturing out a sky filled with clouds or probably a city skyline. Something that would give a sense of rising or going up.

Audio recognition question screen - In this screen, the user will be made to listen to an audio file and would have to choose the word that corresponds to it from the four options presented. The most visible part of this screen would be the speaker icon that the user would click on to play the audio file. For the choices, simple boxes would suffice. We also want the score to appear on the upper right hand corner. Each level has ten questions so the score part would be something like 8/10.

Speech distinction question screen - the user will be given a word to pronounce - possibly a microphone icon in the middle of the screen.

Pass/Fail - Simple screen informing the user if he passed/failed the level. We could either display the percentage or the score itself. We can also add stars corresponding to the score they achieved (ex: 3 stars for perfect score)
