I am looking for assistance with a fully set up AWS/Linux setup that needs maintenance and optimization. I need experienced support with a substantial understanding of the system’s components in order to maintain its uptime, scalability and reliability. I expect solid communication and problem-solving skills from an AWS specialist to keep the system running smoothly. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of all the AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, bash scripting) in order to meet my maintenance requests.
S01/S03 LIST OF DIFFERENCES THAT IMPACT THE ARTIFACT
1. Jira Home moves from an EBS volume to EFS. In the [login to view URL] file, the mount point
should be removed from this script. The Terraform will provide the mount for EFS. The
mount point is provided as an input variable in S03, so you should take care of that in this
script.
2. The Jira install is currently on the same mount point as the Jira home. That means it is
backed up and restored during rehydration and that much of the application survives
rehydration. In the new system, there will be a need for a fresh install every time on the
root volume.
3. The application will be installed every time a new instance is launched in the auto scaling
group. Enterprise Jira will need to manage this and work with their consultant Right Star,
if necessary.
4. The application will now live on a multi-node cluster. It may react differently and may
require new configuration.
5. The current DMS implementation is creating a unique artifact for each environment. It
needs to be determined why this has happened and needs to be created as a single
artifact that can handle environmental differences.
SOME ADDITIONAL CONTEXT ABOUT S03
We use Terraform to deploy infrastructure. When we run CodeDeploy, the option we use is
Discover Existing. We pre-create and keep all the infrastructure.
In the environment there are two autoscaling groups. The "blue" ASG has two instances running.
We have a fixed instance policy. The green ASG has 0 instances running.
When you run the Application Deployment Pipeline:
1. It determines which ASG (Auto Scaling Group) is active with the currently running
application.
2. It queries that ASG to determine the size which is the number of instances.
3. It scales up the destination (green) ASG and waits for it to be healthy. There is no app yet
on these instances.
4. It executes CodeDeploy and targets the destination ASG.
5. At this point CodeDeploy manages the deployment and moves the traffic from the old
ASG to the new ASG instances.
6. The pipeline waits for the above to finish and report as healthy.
7. When healthy, the pipeline scales down the original ASG to 0 instances.
SUGGESTIONS FOR CLEANING UP CURRENT .SH SCRIPTS
1. For each section, separate the bash script into a bash function, and put it at the top or
bottom of the file. Although the functions will likely not be called more than once, it will
make the script easier to read and allow someone to easily follow the flow by reviewing
the main section. They can then drill down into each function as they desire.
2. There are areas where there are long paths to a file, and they are called more than once.
Create variables for these paths to clean up the file.
3. Separate the xml section into a separate file or in a function.
4. There is some code commented that is meant to uncomment and run in certain scenarios
(i.e., if a user does not exist during rehydration). Uncomment this code and make
changes to run it conditionally.
5. Edit comments to make sense for anyone looking at the script and not just the current
