You should consider the attached scenario information and identify the key tasks and requirements specified: to deliver a fully functional user management support system - focused on system integrity, maintenance and usability.

At this stage you will be looking to get a clear understanding of the kind of problems a database administrator will encounter in creating and [appropriately] specifying different user types/levels. You will then need to think carefully about the solutions required to produce a good strategy for database administration.

Your challenge is first to develop your own understanding and skills, gained from the weekly lectures and supporting practical sessions, by using the DBA guide (Oracle 11g 2 day [login to view URL], where chapters relate directly to relevant lectures). However, a comprehensive assignment result is unlikely to be achieved, without widening your knowledge through your own extensive research (e.g. online Oracle documentation and other sources), to identify appropriate solutions to satisfy the assignment brief.

As you will not be demonstrating your work, you must provide a written report (circa. 2,000 words), detailing your actions - based on the scenario and specified tasks.

You should keep a log of the work you undertake (issues/tasks and solutions), to help you in writing your report, e.g. this could be Word document where you can drop screenshots of your work, as you progress. It is important to understand that this assignment is not simply about reporting a system result, but also providing an analysis and evaluation of:

 what you have achieved and how you went about it;

 the choices you identified and the decisions you made - supported by your justifications;

 how you tested your implementation – based on your formulated testing strategy;
