PROJECT BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW

Root Change is an International Development Organization based in Washington DC. As part of our work in poverty alleviation and social development, we use a software program called ORA which through a survey instrument collects data about relationships between individuals, organizations, office units, etc. etc., draws "network maps", and runs standard network analysis metrics on the maps to identify active networkers, resource hubs, knowledge experts, etc. etc. ([url removed, login to view])

Untill now, all social network analysis research has been done using software programs. Root Change is working to develop a new Social Network Analysis Utility which will be hosted on an online server, utilize an online database (SQL or other), and allow a user to:

1. Create multiple networks.

2. Customize a templated online Network Analysis Survey to meet their network analysis needs.

3. Map / refresh the map in real-time as surveys are returned or submitted to the system.

4. Run standard Network Analysis metrics on the networks.

5. Display standard network analysis metrics and other survey data in a graphic "dashboard", such as is presented in Google Analytics.

PROGRAMMER JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Design and deploy an interactive web-based application using PHP, Java, OpenGL, and etc.

2. Create and implement a secure server solution for data storage

3. Develop protocols and written documentations for accessing and maintaining the secure data

Required skills:

At minimum, candidates for this position should have the following skills and characteristics:

1. Significant progress towards a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science

2. Proficiency and experience with OpenGL

3. Candidate should also be skilled in PHP and Java

Well qualified candidates will also have the following:

1. Proficiency and experience with Matlab, Octave, R, SQL, or similar

2. Knowledge in BI software suites and ETL tools such as Hyperion is a plus
