Research and compare SaaS / Cloud Hosting Companies

I have a list of hosting companies I'd like to have compared and put into a spreadsheet.
We'd like to compare costs and other pertinent information about these hosts to narrow
down the list. We've tried Amazon hosting with AWS but it is very complicated to
configure. Besides, there are other hosts that are faster. We need total control of
the installation because we need to work with php so this would need to be similar to
vps hosting. But, vps hosting is very expensive. Rackspace is very expensive. We
are looking for alternatives. Then, we'd want this research put into an easy to understand
format with the necessary details and conclusions presented in a spreadsheet.
