Hi. Will it be a USB-based barcode scanner you plan to use? Do you plan to use an "off-the-shelf" scanner - or some custom hardware? And is it a 1-D (e.g. UPC-A) or 2-D barcode you need to read? Do you have a preference for a particular programming language (e.g. C, C++ or Python)? Lastly ... Can you elaborate on what you mean by "tagging capabilities"? I would probably need to revise my bid based on your answer to those questions. The current bid for interfacing with a traditional USB scanner - for 1-D barcodes - and written in C or C++. USB barcode scanners are often "plug and play" - similar to a keyboard. So - depending on the type of barcode and hardware you want to use - it might be possible to treat the scanner like a keyboard interface from a programming perspective. I have a Raspberry Pi Model 1 - running Raspbian 9 - to test this on. I am based in Ireland.

I would like to know more about your project so I can offer you best approach? I can offer you two approaches to this project, depending on what are your goals. One would be embedded linux with existing off the shelf scanner, another would be custom built hardware. Each one has pluses and minuses, perhaps if you can answer few questions I can suggest you best approach. 1.) What is expected quantity to be produces? 2.) Would it be battery powered? and if so what would be expected life from one charge? 3.) Is production cost important? 4.) Is size important? Embedded linux would be easiest and cheapest way from development stand point of view.
