I am looking to develop a lower cost alternative for race car data logging using analog inputs to start. later I may tie into a vehicles ODB systems.
I have used multirotor arduino based boards and and softwear like "multiwii or APM mission planner" which gave me the idea and know what should be possible.
I want to have a graphical interface that will show things like:
GPS speed (ublox gps module or similar open to suggestions)
track where the car has been and draw on the screen, also showing current position
be able to select where the start stop line of a racetrack is somehow so we ca track:
lap times
best lap time
number of laps
readouts for temperatures
readouts for read outs for foe aft and side to side g force/accel
rpm dial
and possibly some potentiometer inputs
A start / Stop logging button would be good as well as the option to load an old log file and watch the playback. (preferably in .2x, .5x, 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x speeds
Also a driver change button or the option to select /log different drivers also needed, (can be as simple as putting an extra line saying driver 1, driver 2, etc in the log file when the button is pushed.
I want the data to be logged and saved to an sd card or usb in the car as well as broadcast over a radio link to a pc or mac where the data can also be saved in a log file over radio likely 433mhz,
I want to start with the software for the graphical interface to display the data graphically first as i have a few arduino boards that i can test some data streaming with if needed.
I can either use an existing multirotor chip like the atmega328 arduino board or can develop a better one if that would be best.
In the end I will have it in a metal case and robust connections for the inputs but for now i mostly want to get the equipment and then have the interface to see what is happening in the car.
