I´m Software Engineer, I´d done this before in ajax with jquery and c# server in a content administrator to upload files and images (but in php should works as same), Ajax doesn´t have limits to upload files, however you should check the limits of your server, if you manage php there are some configurations to allow large videos, and the storage of images and videos I suggest a cloud storage with google cloud or azure, or somo data service,
