Wanted: Rails Expert for Private Investigation WebApp - Wireframes Included

Are you the type of programmer that values simplicity? Have you heard of 37Signals? If so, I'd like to invite you to have a hand in creating a private investigation web app from scratch. A draft GUI is attached. If there is any interest read the rest, otherwise skip this job posting. In the Private Investigators world when their job is complete they must generate a communication digest for their clients or Court. This account is the final verdict that the customer uses to confirm their suspicions or a Judge may use to issue a warrant. After weeks of tracking, surveillance, peeing into bottles and digging into dirt, a great report gives clients, Judges, lawyers, victims, or companies the knowledge they need to pursue the truth and seek justice. . A great report can consist of up of 5 attributes: * Text * Photos * Video * Audio * GPS tracking info (usually in HTML) Background Currently in order to generate client reports, private investigators need to open up that dreaded MS Word and deal with too much complexity and too little flexibility. Besides adding text, the report writers must upload photos, waste time resizing them and then adding captions to them. Later they have to capture information from PDF files and other non-standard file formats (like GPS tracking reports) and incorporate them into the document. Finally, they sometimes need to capture portions of video, so they have to open up video editing software and search for the correct frames and grab them one by one. If we want to send a longer video file we need to burn a DVD. All of this takes hours to make a simple report. There ain't no money in writing reports but its how PI's get paid. This is an example of an old fashioned report: [login to view URL] [login to view URL] Too time consuming to create and too limited in information for the client! ## Deliverables The Idea to Code I SPY an opportunity to help PI's waste less time writing reports. What I envision is a new way to create reports that takes advantage of Adobe Reader's ability to incorporate flash video, plus screen capture technology and OCR. Here is how I would imagine a web app working: Each of the features will be available in a block. The block will provide all the tools for that feature. Each time the user wants to add a feature he clicks on a drop down menu that opens a block with the necessary tools to build that feature into the report Step 1 User inserts case ID, letterhead, client information clicks on check box if password protection is required for this document Step 2 User clicks on an insert box which opens a menu of potential features to insert like Text block Picture block with box to automatically insert caption under video Video block which has functionality like Jing [login to view URL] or moviemasher [login to view URL] to capture video as it is playing and insert it into box in flv format Screen capture block to get clip from HTML GPS report like or Clarify [login to view URL] Step 3 Add sequential blocks until report is complete Step 4 Ability to preview document, save it as a web page, email it or Save as a PDF file (so that flash video can play) or text file for simple reports - watch video [login to view URL] The idea is to make creating reports a simple process. Maybe you have even better ideas to make this simple to use. I'm not a developer and I've never done this before, so I'd like to know how you'd recommend that we build an application like this and how long you'd think it would take to build. I'm open to any platform or any way to get this done, so please give me your recommendation. I've attached some very rough UI examples - these are just quick ideas to help you understand what I'm looking for - I will be developing them further.
