Man, I'm sorry to hear that. About 9 months ago I had an unfortunate experience too with an employer. She hadn't make any milestone, and yet I still took the job because of the misleading milestone status Freelancer had given to me. Without me knowing that, I finished a demo video and sent it to her. She said perfect! But then, when I realized there is no milestone, when I asked "Should I make a milestone now?" she said "I won't be able to without my satisfaction." I was like, excuse me? She just saw the demo and said perfect! In the end she canceled the project with a reason I couldn't finish it. I'm still grateful she didn't leave a bad review for me. I tried to contact Freelancer, but they say they couldn't do anything since we didn't make any milestone. They just advised me to only accept jobs with milestones, because that's the basic rule apparently. I also asked them to revise the milestone payment statuses information page, and yet they haven't change a thing until this day. You know, the thing is, milestone is like a guarantee that you actually have the intention to pay the employee. When you make a milestone, the money do not immediately go to the employee's account. Freelancer is the one who hold it. You can cancel the milestone anytime and the money will go back to your account. Only you who can release a milestone to the employee. And you also should know that when you release a milestone to the employee, that means you're totally satisfied with the results.
