I'd like to commission an iOS developer to make a comic reader app for the specific webcomic [login to view URL] I have mocked up how I'd like it to work and written a specification document.
*** PLEASE NOTE ***
I have high standards for how polished and "native" the app should look, and a few past attempts to have this made have not worked out for ONE BASIC FEATURE:
*The horizontal scroller on the home screen.*
This appears to be an element that has to be custom-made, and it seems difficult for many to get right. If you want to guarantee my selection of your bid, prove to me that you can replicate this exactly with no visual glitches, all the right movement, and so on.
*** END NOTE ***
However, the app is not massively themed or visually complex, and I am trying to stick to iOS conventions wherever possible. I would like it to feel polished and Apple-like, and I believe the mockups and spec should lead to an app that feels this way. I'd love it if you, as a developer, had a taste for what makes things feel native and wonderful, and strived to use standard controls and modes wherever possible.
It can support iOS 6 only, because I want it to use iOS 6.
The most complex features of this app will be:
* A home screen that works like the "Featured" page of the iOS 6 App Store, with some banners and that horizontally scrolling thumb view
* A chapter list which depends on a JSON feed of chapter titles sourced from the website
* A comic viewer which emulates iBooks, with a scrubbable page list at the bottom of the screen that displays a thumbnail preview, and the page flip animation that I believe is a standard part of iOS 5
* A gallery that draws on a feed that provides a list of thumbnails and full images, displayed much like the Photos app, with basic sharing functions
It will also feature a single in-app purchase to unlock the full archives - essentially just a toggle that enables or disables a segment of the database used for the Comic List.
I encourage you to take a look at the mockup map I have attached. The specification fleshes out all the little details for each mockup, but the graphic gives you a good overview of what the app should do and how polished it should be.
I hope the project is interesting to you! I would be willing to help out in any way I can - while I cannot code mobile apps, I can support the app with PHP coding on the web server (specifically to deliver feeds to the app) and would be happy to do all the visual design work for it.
Please note the specification is written in markdown using nested bullet lists for structure. It should hopefully be quite easy to follow, and fairly complete.
I have also supplied a ZIP package of basic graphic assets I made for the home screen, just take a look. I can make more graphics like these as you need them.
FINALLY:
This is an iPhone and iPod touch-only app project, but I would be interested in an iPad version later (perhaps very similar, and of course would like occasional small updates which I could pay you for once 1.0 is done. If your bid is out of my price range, I'd be more likely to consider it if you're willing to make an iPad variant with a bookcase-style chapter index etc. But I suspect baby steps are a better approach, and most of my customers are using iPhones and iPods.
