Project Title Create a MobLog Authoring Tool for Mobile Phones or PDAs 2. Aim of the Project The aim of this project is to produce a tool which records voice and camera recording on a PDA or advanced mobile phone (Nokia 7660+, Sony Ericsson P800/900, Sendo X, XDA II etc). It should then be capable of playing back sequences of images and sound. It will be programmed in the Java mobile edition (j2me) though you may specify which device and emulator it is intended for. Having made such a recording, it should be capable of being transferred to a server and then played back over the Web. 3. Background Information and User Requirements A description of Java mobile edition can be found at: [login to view URL] To make the logs viewable, some form of rendering will be required at the server. This is most likely done using XSLT and SMIL. To understand these look at: [login to view URL] (for SMIL) [login to view URL] (for XSLT) There will be specific challenges arising from using the Java mobile edition which will take you beyond basic Java knowledge. As with all Web server environments, some form of authentication will be required, and therefore some simple database programming and normalisation will be required. This may be done in a language of your choice (PHP, ASP, JSP). The client should be capable of recording sound and pictures taken with the camera of the mobile device. It should then be capable of small editing features (such as the deleting of sound recorded, the deletion of images, and potentially changing the order of sound or images). A database will be constructed where the user can log in to a user interface on the server and upload these media collections, which will be stored by day. Any user then clicking on that day can see and hear the mobile log. The presenting of this material (over the Web) is likely to be done using SMIL or XHTML+SMIL to be shown in Real Player or Internet Explorer. Ideally, the recorder should: · Work over a number of mobile phones · Have an interface on the device for editing of presentations · Allows the addition of drawings or text over the presentation from the mobile device · Allows the multimedia sequences to be sent as MMS messages 2 4. Basic Project Tasks In order to be considered for a pass at Third Class Honours standard on this project, a student must give evidence of having adequately attempted to: · Write a program for use on a mobile device which can record sound and camera shots and replay them as a sequence on the device · Create a file system structure for media stored on the server · Create a normalized database structure for the server including ERDs and data dictionaries · Create a storyboard of the user interface for the MobLog server ## Platform java netbeans on windows xp of internet explorer
