Amend Opencart Product Page layout

I am building a website for my client which already has quite a few modifications that has turned it from being an actual shopping cart to just a catalogue for now. Until they decide to turn it into a webstore in the future it will hide pricing, add to cart, accounts and wish lists etc. My issue for now is trying to change the product page layout. As they only have very short product descriptions, i want the description to be on the right hand side under the model etc. Then turn off the tab view of the description so we are not viewing the description twice. I have tried editing the [login to view URL] file myself but nothing i do to that file seems to make any difference to the page. I'm not sure if this is because of the other modifications i have running or if it's because the changes need to be made somewhere else. But all my research says this is where the changes need to be made for layout. So i am giving up and asking for help from a freelancer! Attached are images of how the current page is and how i want it to be with the description on the right. There may be ongoing work for the right freelancer who is proficient in opencart.
