Lang Vei (pronounced long vay) is an overlooked historical battle. Lang Vei was the name of a US Special Forces camp in Vietnam that was overrun by enemy (North Vietnamese Army or NVA) tanks. It was the first time the NVA used tanks in the Vietnam War. At the time, US intelligence officials at the highest levels refused to believe the NVA possessed tanks even when soldiers on the ground presented proof. The battle for Lang Vei was the only time the overall US commander in Vietnam, General William Westmoreland, considered resigning. My name is Dave Stockwell. I'm the foremost expert on the battle.
