Running MARS

Attached to this bid request is an Excel document containing data on a number of variables. This bid request is to anyone who has a programme which implements the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) algorithm. My preference is for the one produced by Salford Systems, but please bid if you have another programme for MARS. The task is to input the attached data into MARS, and use it to predict the variables GDP and inflation separately. The deliverable is the resulting two MARS equations, their R2 and adjusted R2, and the percentage of predictions which correctly fall above or below the actual historical average. In other words, if the predicted value and the actual value are both below or above the historical average, count this as a success, and report the proportion of such successes. When producing the MARS equations, please try different input parameters to your programme to come up with the best possible result. In your bids, please indicate the percentage of success which you obtain, so that I may compare the efficiency of your algorithms. Please also let me know which programme you are using. I look forward to hearing from you. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
